KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo is receiving the fourth highest payout from the State of Michigan in marijuana tax revenue to municipalities for the 2024 fiscal year.
In figures released last week, Kalamazoo is only behind Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing with just over $1.1 million. Battle Creek is fifth at $932,000.
Municipalities are paid just over $58,000 for each marijuana retail store license. That is almost the same amount as fiscal year 2023.
The City of Portage is receiving $582,286, while Kalamazoo Township will get $232,914. Kalamazoo County will receive just over $1.9 million and Calhoun County will get over $1.8 million.
Aside from the nearly $100 million in disbursements to municipalities, counties, and tribes, more than $116 million was sent to the School Aid Fund for K-12 education and another $116 million to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
