SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies were able to disarm an intoxicated, suicidal male armed with a chainsaw without injuries Wednesday afternoon.
Around 2:45 p.m. deputies responded to the 2000 block of East. Michigan Avenue. When they arrived, they found the 30-year-old Sheridan Township resident, who was still in possession of the running chainsaw. Deputies immediately engaged in negotiations with the man, who they say made threats against officers and requested “suicide by cop.”
During the negotiations, the chainsaw stopped running, allowing deputies to safely take the individual into protective custody without further incident. The subject was then transported to a medical facility for psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Albion Department of Public Safety.
