MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An intoxicated man who police say committed an armed robbery in Galesburg is in custody after an unusual arrest.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. Sunday Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a motorist assist call on I-69 near the I-94 interchange in Marshall Township. They found a 37-year-old man from Saint Clair Shores, MI, who was intoxicated and uncooperative. They say the man became aggressive, physically attacking multiple citizens who had stopped to offer assistance, causing non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, deputies learned that the suspect had just committed an armed robbery in Galesburg in Kalamazoo County. As deputies attempted to apprehend the individual, he resisted arrest and subsequently assaulted hospital staff while receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained prior to law enforcement contact.
Further investigation revealed stolen property and the weapon used in the robbery in the suspect’s vehicle. These items were recovered and turned over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail on multiple felony charges. The Marshall Police Department assisted the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation and arrest.
