BANGOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 28-year-old Bangor-area man was killed in a head-on crash caused by a deer near Bangor Monday morning.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office says the fatal crash happened around 5:15 a.m. on M-43 near 66th Street in Geneva Township when a deer ran into the road, causing the man traveling eastbound to hit it and then lose control, causing his car to cross the centerline. The car hit a westbound SUV head-on.
Deputies say the man was pinned in his car and died at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 26-year-old Lawrence-area woman, was also pinned in and had to be freed by firefighters. She was taken to the hospital with injuries that are considered serious but not life-threatening.
Deputies say the Bangor-area man was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the SUV was wearing a seat belt.
